Serbian Cardionephrology Association

Merry Christmas And Happy New Year

Dear colleagues, associates and friends,

On behalf of the Association for Cardionephrology of Serbia, as well as on my own behalf, I congratulate you on the upcoming New Year and Christmas holidays with the wish that the New Year 2021 will bring you good health, happiness and success.

It was a great honor and pleasure for us that you have believed in us all these years, actively participated in the work of the Association and thus contributed to its further development.

Today, Serbian cardionephrology, or CARNEF for short, is a well-known organization not only in the country, but also abroad.

We have always insisted that the main feature of our work be high scientific and professional quality and all those who attended the meetings of the Association, from seminars, courses, through schools, symposiums to international congresses, could be convinced of that.

In the year that is ahead of us and that we all expect with a lot of hope and faith, after the difficult 2020, the Association will celebrate its coming of age. I sincerely hope that we will mark it in the right way - by organizing and holding the Fifth International Congress of Cardionephrology.

Join us!

Best regards,

Prof. Dr. Sonja Radenkovic

President of the Association for Cardionephrology of Serbia

The Fourth International Cardionephrology and Hypertension Congress has finished in Ribarska Banja

There were 249 participants at the congress, and a total of 76 lectures were held, 57 by invitation, and 19 in the form of free press releases. The work of the congress took place through mini-symposia, educational seminars, thematic sessions and plenary lectures.

The invited lecturers were a multidisciplinary team composed of eminent experts in the fields of cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, pulmonology, pathophysiology, clinical pharmacology, biochemistry, vascular and cardiac surgery. For the second time, pharmacists, chemists and biologists also took part in the congress. Almost half of the invited lecturers were from medical faculties and clinical centers from abroad (Italy, Spain, France, Israel, Slovenia, northern Macedonia).

The conclusions of the congress emphasize that it is necessary to enable further development of cardionephrology and accept that this interdisciplinary branch of medical sciences is the only one that gives us scientific and professional bases for a good understanding of the complexity of etiopathogenetic mechanisms of associated heart and kidney damage. The increasing frequency of these lesions indicates the need for continuous teamwork of cardiologists and nephrologists with the obligatory cooperation with other profiles of experts.

The future in the development of this discipline requires better coordination of basic experimental trials with clinical needs, especially when it comes to new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Welcome to KARNEF 2019

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is my great honor and pleasure to invite you to the 9th Meeting of cardiologists and nephrologists organized by Serbian Association for Cardionephrology and 4th International Congress of Cardionephrology and Hypertension "KARNEF 2019", to be held from May 17 to 19 2019. at Congress Hall in "Special hospital Ribarska Banja" in Ribarska Banja.

"KARNEF" has become a traditional meeting of cardiologists and nephrologists, with equal participation of doctors of other specializations: physiologists, pathophysiologists, clinical biochemists, pharmacologists, endocrinologists, pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, vascular and cardiac surgeons. It is, without a doubt, of utmost importance participation of pharmacists, chemists, and biologists, as well.

A multidisciplinary approach in patients with combined heart and kidney damage is of great importance in the early detection, prevention, and treatment, considering very complex etiopathogenesis of these diseases.

For the first time this year, we will talk about cardiopulmonary renal damages, as well as the relationship between the gastrointestinal tract and cardiorenal diseases, for which no special attention has been paid so far.

The special thematic unit of this meeting is experimental cardionophrology and physical chemistry in cardionophrology which, as the basic areas, greatly contribute to the understanding of complex etiopathogenetic mechanisms and the interaction of the heart-kidney system.

The unavoidable topic of the meeting is arterial hypertension and its role in the onset and progression of cardiorenal damage, with the emphasis on new therapeutic possibilities.

The Conference will include plenary lectures, thematic sessions, workshops and meetings with experts from various fields of researches. Awards are provided for the best research work in the field of Cardionephrology.

As in previous years, there will be a large number of speakers and lecturers, from abroad, which certainly points out all the importance and the quality of this Congress

This is the 9th school of Cardionephrology, unique, not only in our country but in the region and in Southeastern Europe.

The work of the gathering will take place through plenary lectures, thematic sessions, workshops, and direct meetings of participants with experts from certain areas.

The role of Serbian Cardionephrology Association in scientific and educational work in the field of combined heart and kidney disease, as well as in the organization of such great events is recognized by the major international associations. As of March 2016, our organization has become an affiliate member of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN).

I cordially invite you to join us and to actively take part in the Conference and thus contribute to the further development of Cardionephrology in Serbia.

Hoping to see you soon in Ribarska Banja,

Best regards,

Prof. Dr. Sonja Radenković

President of Organizing Committee

Opinions of Lecturers

1. All praise for KARNEF, 2019. The congress was held in a pleasant atmosphere, in Ribarska Banja. The congress hall was equally comfortable for both the lecturers and the listeners. The timetable was maximally respected, and most importantly, there were many quality and interesting lectures.

This was a great opportunity to exchange professional experience with colleagues from our country and abroad.

Once again, all praise for the organization of such a large gathering, and I hope to continue the cooperation next year as well.

Prof. Jelena Nešović Ostojić

Institute of Pathological Physiology

Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade

2. I think that this year, as well as many previous ones, the Congress of Cardionephrology and Hypertension deserves a high scientific assessment and all praise, above all, for carefully selected current topics in this field. We are witnesses that many of the latest basic and experimental tests in cardionephrology are not far from being used in clinical practice today, which is very important in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease, as well as primary heart failure complicated by renal failure. Recent genetic research in this area, as well as pathophysiological mechanisms, have provided new insights that provide an opportunity for better treatment and timely diagnosis of patients with cardiorenal or renocardial syndrome. This year, too, we had the opportunity to hear lectures by colleagues and eminent experts from abroad, which is especially important and educational for young doctors, clinicians, but also young scientists who deal with basic science.

From the very beginning of its existence, this Congress has nurtured a multidisciplinary approach, the cooperation of experts of various profiles, both in basic science, on the one hand, and clinicians, nephrologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, on the other hand. Educational seminars that dealt with current topics in cardionephrology gave a special stamp to this year's gathering and confirmed, once again, its quality and the need to continue to nurture continuity in monitoring scientific knowledge in the field of cardionephrology.

Ribarska Banja is a beautifully chosen environment for this event. Thanks again Prof. Sonja Radenković on the great energy and effort she invests every time to organize this gathering, and above all on carefully selected current topics.

Prof. dr Gordana Peruničić-Peković MD PhD

16. This year's Congress of Cardionephrology reiterated its success from previous years, both on carefully selected topics and on the topicality of the data presented by basic participants, molecular biologists, geneticists, and clinicians, eminent teachers from the country and abroad. The invaluable benefit of such a gathering is precisely multidisciplinarity. Hence the interest of the participants in the gathering to come again in the coming years.

I am of the opinion that the tradition of this Congress should not be interrupted, despite the various difficulties that prof. Radenkovic is lucky during the preparations for its maintenance. Once again, sincere congratulations to prof. Radenković on the exceptionally good organization and management of the Congress and the selection of lecturers, as well as the appeal to the authorities to show empathy and understanding for the necessity of holding this Congress in the future as well.

Best regards,

Prof. dr sc. med. Zorica Rašić-Milutinović
